ROBOB

Robert van Woezik, born 24th of September, 1968 in Eindhoven, Holland.

Record-collector since 1982. Owner of at least 20.000 records.

Started off in 1982 until 1986 with drive-in 'Beatbox', named after the famous Art of Noise track, which still is one of my favourites. The music was aimed for students, so lots of soul- and danceclassics, And a lot of alternative music like Simple Minds, Cure and Anne Clark.

Early interests in electronic music. References:
Cabaret Voltaire, Trevor Horn, On-U, Renegade Soundwave, Tackhead, Front 242É.

After some bars I started my first proper DJ-residency at Effenaar, Eindhoven in 1987. I have played there very regularly till this very day. Invested much time in knowledge of hiphop music, but never cared much about the lyrics, the beats were what it was about.
Started working at recordshop Bullit, expanded my musical interests drastically and got infected with the house-virus from the very early days of Chicago-house. UK's summer-of-love acid-house as well as Belgian New-Beat also had major influence on my development. Played at Eindhoven's very first house-party ( the legendary Dommeltunnel ). A series of legendary parties at the Effenaar followed shortly after.

Experienced the rise and fall of underground danceclub Funki Bizniz ( R.I.P. ) in Eindhoven from 1993 till 1999 as very first resident and originator. The music was house in all its mighty variations, i.e. from deep via party, breakbeat to hard techno, but a bit more safe compared the the Effenaar, where I always love to experiment just a bit more.

Managed a label called Side Records, which released two EP's and a CD in 1995/1996.

I call my music 'beat-driven progressive eclecticism', but what I really mean is just lots of different phat beats. Expect house, techno, progressive, breakbeat, electro, minimal, two-step, multi-step ; be adventerous and expect the unexpected!
